HistorySince 1979, Option Care has provided an ever- growing array of infusion therapies and other healthcare services beyond hospital walls: in patients' homes, extended care facilities, medical clinics, doctors' offices and infusion centers. even when patients are traveling. Option Care has helped define the new alternate site industry and has introduced many cost-reducing methods of practice. How We WorkGenerally, if a patient has a need for infusion therapy, the physician will provide the order to the infusion pharmacy. The patient may be admitted to service from the hospital, outpatient clinic or physician's office. Occasionally, therapy may be initiated in the home. If a patient is going home from the hospital they will be given the information that Option Care is the infusion provider. Patients may also request Option Care services. The case manager or discharge planner in the hospital may assist in arranging our services. Option Care will coordinate with the patient for delivery of services and explain what services will be provided. Specialized infusion nurses will assist in teaching the patient and/or caregiver about their disease or condition, medicine, therapy, equipment and expected responses to therapy. Nurses and pharmacists assess the patient and prescribed medication, then train the patient and/or caregiver to safely administer the therapy. Our goal is to promote maximum independence of the patient and family. Monitoring of the patient, the IV access site, response to therapy, and communication with the physician are components of the care provided. Deliveries of supplies are usually provided weekly or as needed. Option Care staff are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patients and caregivers are provided phone numbers for easy access to a clinician. Hands-on training and support materials are provided to promote successful therapy outcomes. When the patient is discharged from services by physician order, Option Care provides discharge instructions and removes any reusable equipment. |
