Review of the literature, advantages, disadvantages, perceptions and outcomes of this method will be discussed. A pediatric case example will be presented.

Chemotherapy Overview This program is designed to provide the participant with an overview of advances in the development and administration of chemotherapeutic agents; factors effecting the response to chemotherapy and monitoring and management of chemotherapy in the alternate care setting.

Compatibility Issues with Total Parenteral Nutrition This course provides an overview of the compatibility-related issues in administering total parenteral nutrition. The complexity of the solutions, available studies, y-site administration and other factors are discussed in drug/nutrient compatibility. Nursing interventions discussed include use of filters and administration techniques.

Considerations in the Transplant Recipient This course will provide an introduction to solid organ transplantation. Response rates and types of rejection will be reviewed as well as the incidences and treatments of infections that commonly occur. The side effects, uses, and special considerations of specific immunosuppressive medications will be discussed. The cause, prevalence, and treatments of choice of the common malignancies associated with immunosuppression will also be presented.

Diabetes: Trends and Technology This course will provide an overview of diabetes with a focus on Type II referencing current ADA guidelines. Current trends in treatment, including oral and injectable drugs will be discussed. Technological advances will be reviewed as part of the overall treatment plan for this condition.

Disease State Management and Outcomes Measurement (emphasis on DSM) Providers are required to track and benchmark clinical outcomes as part of regulatory and managed care demands. An overview of factors determining changes in practice and delivery of care and relation to outcomes will be presented. Examples of specific outcomes and management of outcomes projects and rationale for home infusion will be discussed.

Growth Hormone Deficiency in Pediatrics and Adults This course will provide an overview of growth hormone deficiency across the life span. Included will be guidelines for therapy in the alternative setting. Indications, contraindications, patient selection, training, special issues with children, stimulation testing, and monitoring parameters are discussed. Issues for managing patient benefits for growth hormone therapy will be discussed.

Chronic Hepatitis C—An Introduction (HCV Inservice) This course will provide an overview of hepatitis C and its treatment. Included will be guidelines for therapy in the alternative care setting.

Interpretation of Clinical Laboratory Tests This course reviews frequently used lab values used for diagnosis, monitoring patient progress and evaluating effectiveness of therapeutic regimen. An overview of lab test parameters for specific disease states such as diabetes, congestive heart failure, cancer and other chronic diseases will be discussed. Also included are parameters for evaluating trends in nutrition status, drug therapy and case management implications.

Discussion will include systolic and diastolic heart failure, signs and symptoms of right and left-sided heart failure, current treatment regimens, patient monitoring via the Critical Pathway and patient education.

Multiple Sclerosis Overview This course will provide an overview of multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease afflicting younger adults with no known cure. Discussed will be the epidemiology, pathophysiology and theory about the disease process. Also included will be the presentation of the clinical manifestations of the disease and the classification of stages. Treatment of multiple sclerosis with drugs and other therapies are discussed with relate patient management issues.

Nutrition and Aging This course will provide the participating clinician with an introduction to nutrition in the aging patient. Topics will include nutritional screening, nutritional assessment, nutrition requirements, and nutritional intervention options in the elderly population.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus—RSV This course is designed as an overview of respiratory syncytial virus in the pediatric population. Topics covered include an overview of the disease, transmission, treatment and prevention. Definition, indications, advantages/disadvantages, care and maintenance are described as well as potential complications and management. Participants will be able to demonstrate via skills checklist accessing an implanted port model. Training and patient education regarding management of ports in outpatient settings will also be addressed.

Classification of wounds, risk factors, assessment, patient teaching and wound care treatment and technology will be reviewed. The focus will be on management of this type of service and patient specific outcomes.
